Modular Cath & Electrophysiology Lab

PROJECT OVERVIEW
Keel provided owner’s project management services for the implementation of a modular Cath/Electrophysiology laboratory and connecting corridor at a major academic medical center. The project featured a prefabricated modular facility manufactured by Modular Devices Incorporated (MDI) and included site preparation, utility infrastructure, structural coordination, and integration with existing hospital facilities.

The Challenge
The leading Massachusetts hospital's existing electrophysiology labs were operating at capacity, creating rowing patient demand and concerns about physican retention. While planning for a permanent expansion, the health system needed a practical interim solution that could quickly increase capacity without disrupting ongoing operations.
Keel's Approach
Keel provided Owner's Project Management Services for the delivery of the modular Cath/EP Lab expansion. The project required careful coordination of on-site preparation, off-site modular fabrication, and the installation of the completed unit on the hospital's fifth-floor courtyard while maintaining ongoing hospital operations.
Results
By providing a timely interim solution, the project supported continued clinical growth while planning for a permanent expansion. The completed modular expansion increased the hospital's electrophysiology capacity, reducing patient wait times and enabling the health system to serve approximately 400 additional patients per year.
